Read the essay below. Afterwards, try to get the best understanding
you can of the following questions.
(1) What type of alternative experiences can Black Power Economists
provide for Black People?
(2) What can countries in the Caribbean and South America do to
help Us promote a Black Power economic reality?
(3) What is involved in a revolutionary diplomatic approach?
(4) Are countries in different parts of the world interested in
opening trade relations with Black businesses in the United States?
One of the objectives of a Black Power Economist is to provide
Black People with alternatives to whatever We are experiencing
in the United States. This includes making those of Us who want
to relocate aware of places they might relocate to and under what
conditions. Needless to say, the fact that a Black person relocates
does not mean s/he has stepped out of Our struggle. When a person
relocates, s/he has the opportunity to work for Black independence
from outside of the United States, something that is very, very
critical.
Black Power Economists must put pressure on countries in the Caribbean,
South America and Africa about establishing special programs that
will facilitate the relocation of Blacks who want to and are able
to leave the United States. Black Power Economists must develop
the competitive will to take on such tasks and convince reluctant
government officials that such a move will be good for Black Power
overall. We must urge foreign governments to enact residency and
citizenship programs that acknowledge and address Our unique needs,
while making it clear that We have special skills and resources
that can add value to their country. We have to make others take
Us seriously, and Black Power Economists must be at the forefront
of that initiative.
Black Power Economists must also devise ways to overcome the obstacles
initiated by the US government that will make it difficult for
Us to relocate to other countries and carry on trade with foreign
businesses. Foreign governments are quite willing to develop economic
bonds with independent Black businesses and business persons;
countries in Africa, South America, Cuba and Asia included. We
have to begin approaching these governments as representatives
of an independent, Black economic and political reality, apart
and separate from the United States of America. That way, We will
begin to give feeling and presence to Our independence initiative.
There is a lot the people and governments of countries like Zimbabwe,
Cuba and Venezuela can do to help Black Power Economists, and
there is a lot Black Power Economists can do to assist the people
and governments of most progressive countries. By introducing
a revolutionary diplomatic approach, by supporting and receiving
support from those who have stepped outside of the capitalist
scheme, and by daring to step outside of the capitalist scheme
Ourselves We can make life better for Our people and speed up
the emergence of a Black Power Economics system.
Black Power Economists (each one of Us), Black Power Economics
Units and a Black Power Economics Governing Body must audit the
books, make revolutionary investments and carry out a revolutionary
diplomatic program. We can do that and more, much more.
