Class #6: Black Power Economic Units: What They Do [Audio Version]

Instead of concerning itself with the creation of businesses, the second level of Black Power Economics will revolve around Black Power Economics Units. A Black Power Economics Unit combines the wealth of the unit with the resources it takes from the status quo and uses them to help build and promote a Black Power Economics system. Whereas a business is a narrow activity, Black Power Economics Units will be multi faceted, self sufficient bodies; they can carry out business activities but will not be based on them. The mission of Black Power Economics Units, however, will be to exploit the wealth of Black Power Economists in a way that provides Black People with an alternative to capitalism.

Many Africanists and Black Nationalists are quite familiar with collective work and responsibility, but it has often revolved around culture in the past. A Black Power Economics Unit makes use of collective work and responsibility and much more, with the explicit objective of creating a new political reality. Thus, a Black Power Economics system is the economic component of a Black Nation.

A Black Power Economics Unit can be an individual Black Power Economist or a group of Black Power Economists; and it can exist in an apartment, a home, a farm, or be free of physical boundaries. As a result, Black Power Economists who belong to the same Black Power Economics Unit can be living close together or scattered throughout a small or enlarged area.

Since Black Power Economists are economic guerillas, Black Power Economics Units will retain some elements that are difficult to quantify. But much of the activities of a Black Power Economist will be familiar ones; some will get income from jobs, some will act as entrepreneurs, some will only function within the structure of the Black Power Economics system. All will provide various sources of wealth (time, labor, resources, know how, etc), all will avail themselves of the wealth of others in their unit, all will share their wealth with others in their unit; and all will work ceaselessly to increase the size, scope and influence of their Black Power Economics Unit, other Black Power Economics Units and the Black Power Economics Governing Body.

Each Black Power Economics Unit should grow into a self sufficient component. In addition to being made up of those who produce income, there will be those who produce goods and provide services. For example, some doctors will be Black Power Economists and belong to Black Power Economics Units. The same will be true for other professionals and non professionals, from one end of the spectrum to the other. When acting within the Black Power Economics system, they will invest their goods, services and other wealth in the Black Power Economics Unit and system.

Black Power Economists, Black Power Economics Units and the Black Power Economics Governing Body will become adept at making revolutionary investments. Those investments will enable a Black Power Economics system to evolve that will produce, utilize and exploit Black wealth according to principles that generate the highest yield for the emerging Black Nation.
